Preparing for the Hunt International Series Exhibition

I was delighted to be invited to submit to the next Hunt International Series Exhibitions after my exhibition with the Open Eye Gallery in 2020. I signed up to their newsletter and waited for details.

After sending an intent to submit in 2023, and then submitting images online, I had to send my painting to Pittsburgh for final assessment in September/October  2023. Removing your painting from its lovely protective frame is a bit of a nerve-wracking thing, as is sending your painting trans-Atalantic!

If you are interested in the specifics…

I sent it packed between grey board, in its original kapa and mount board mount*, with a protective layer of acid-free cartridge, and a layer of acetate between the painting and the top mount, (*originally used to present the painting for the RHS & BISCOT shows) and then I bagged it to make it waterproof, thank goodness for those giant bags that come with paper orders, because ONE day they come in useful!.

Pack and Send Edinburgh, created a cardboard carton for my package as per the Hunt’s packaging guidelines. I tracked it daily, agonizing when it got caught for a week in Cincinnati, Ohio at customs. Despite the painting being sent for approval for exhibition only, with no commercial value and no commercial transaction, (this was noted on all of my forms and letters), I still had to pay a customs charge. It arrived though and has been accepted, hurrah!
