Quercus Acorns II
Japanese ink paste and green ink on Lambeth cartridge

An original pen and ink illustration of Quercus, featuring a couple of acorns and some beautifully characterful leaves. Oak leaves seems to have so much character, their lamina are so well delineated by all the veins and sub veins, they are so fun to draw. These were collected in Kinneil Estate and Nature Reserve in Bo’ness in the autumn of 2023. I loved how green the acorns were and wanted to experiment with green ink to see how it would juxtapose with my monochrome ink work. I think it works amazingly well, giving a real pop to the piece.
