I wondered about adding a post now and then which isn’t exactly news but lists a few of the botanical art thingys that I have been thinking about…
I’ve been painting again after my post diploma r&r requirement. I am finishing up on my diploma pieces, which is comfortable work to return to, and its so good to see some of the unfinished compositions coming together… I have more work to do…
Testing paper
I have also tested a couple of sheets of paper following the Fab5 controversy (What’s up with that? I keep getting different stories from different sources).
I tested Botanical Ultra Smooth which was very nice, smooth surface, as white as fab5, my only reservation is that I struggled to get quite the fine detail that I have enjoyed on the old Fab5, however that could be due to rustiness and fatigue… So I will definitely give that another go. See below – yellow leaf, testing Botanical Ultra Smooth.
I also tested Saunders, which is not as white as Fab5, I found it delightfully smooth, no problems with detail! However I found that rubbing out pencil marks is not so good. I used a muji rubber and found that there was a sheen on the paper, which I then had to paint over – so no composition mistakes /adjustments allowed! this might stop me from using this again… but it is so smooth… Once I finish my test piece, I’ll come back and add it here…
Listening
I’ve been listening to Sleeping Beauties, by Stephen King and Owen King, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Annie Barrows and Mary Ann Shaffer and I am just starting Artemis by Andy Weir…
